TIRTZA'S LYRICS

A Special Child -- Jerusalem -- Canfei Ruach -- Between the Braids

To a Special Child
Music by Tirtza Singer
Lyrics by Lyndon Stromberg
Every word that you say is a gift to me
Every sentence like jewels on a string
When you run and kick the ball like a regular kid
I only think of the joy that you bring.

And then sometimes I look at you and think
of all that you could have been
If you had not been born special
And the plan had been different in heaven

But you're a flower that grows in my garden
A star that shines in my sky
You're a window that looks onto my soul
It's only now that I've stopped asking why

You were different than the child we expected
But now you're the one that we bless
You were sent by Hashem to love and protect
To you my special child we said yes

You try hard and it never is easy
Every step that you take seems so great
Take my hand my child and together
We'll both grow up to be strong and straight.

Cause you're a flower that grows in my garden
A star that shines in my sky
You're a window that looks onto my soul
It's only now that I've stopped asking why

I thought I'd have to do all the giving
And the taking would all be by you
But you stretched my heart my little one
I see just the opposite is true.

With every step, every word, every smile
Every picture you draw for the wall
The colors you bring only make our hearts sing
And the hard part all at once seems so small.

Oh you're the flower that grows in our garden
The star that shines in our sky
You're a window that looks onto our soul
It's only now that we've stopped asking why
It's only now that I've stopped asking why.

A special child is not just the child born with a defect or one that has a diagnosis.
A special child is that who somehow defied our own expectations.
He is one who comes with challenges and needs that you never thought you could meet.
He makes us grow, no matter how much we resist, no matter how painful.
He makes us look deeper into ourselves and hold on tighter to Hashem.

Jerusalem Inspired by Tehillim 122
Music by Tirtza Singer
Lyrics by Paul Solomon

Those who love thee shall blossom like sunshine through the morning mist
They shall grow like cedars in Lebanon
Angels shall kiss their lips
Once we went up to the Lord's House
Once we did dance in the gates
Singing praises to Hashem- Hallelukah,Jerusalem!

When peace comes again to Jerusalem
Her ancient stones shall sing
Her voice rejoice with tranquility silently dance within.
Then shall the song of the city form a rainbow of love in our hearts
Fly with the sun over the earth
Cradle her soul with peace. Jerusalem!

Canfei Ruach

Music by Tirtza Singer
Lyrics by Paul Solomon

"This song, inspired by Psalm 18, is dedicated to you, my precious Rachel Chava. I wish for you all of Hashem's blessings and may your neshama always soar."

He soared on the wings of the spirit
He rode on a keruv and did fly...
He bowed the heavens and descended,
His voice thundered forth a lullaby.
A secret place he made of darkness
He lit the candle of my soul,
The shadows of confusion turned to starbursts,
As the dawn awoke a thousand suns of gold.

He soared on the wings of the spirit,
He rode on a keruv and did fly...
I will love thee, oh Lord my salvation,
I will sing you great name to on high.
To the merciful, may you show mercy,
To the upright, may you be upright,
To the pure of heart, may you act with purity,
To the afflicted, may you grant new life.

Then I will soar on the wings of your spirit,
I will dance in the heart of your land,
I will bathe in the wellspring of your kindness,
I will love thee oh Lord, forever and.

Between the Braids

Music by Tirtza Singer
Lyrics adapted by Paul Solomon from poem by Bracha Goetz

"When I was performing at a concert in Baltimore in 1990, I had the privilege of meeting Bracha Goetz, an incredibly gifted poetess who is able to capture women's spiritual nature in her poems. Our struggles, frustrations, joys and triumphs ring true in her beautiful lyrics."

What's in the space between the braids
of these new challahs I just made.
How much of me is hidden there,
Between the braids my thoughts appear.
Adding each new ingredient
Wondering why my soul was sent.
I take two eggs and then two more
Is this what I was created for?

Shabbas kodesh, shabbas kodesh
Open up my eyes.
Let me see my work as holy,
Let me stop chasing lies.
Hands knead the dough,
Let me see my work as holy,
Raising high what seems so low.

When every crumb has vanished
Fron the challahs I just made,
What will remain, my secret struggles
Offered up between the braids.
